The annual Nature in Art show took place recently at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center, Slatington.
During the November 2016, reception, the People’s Choice award was announced.
Winner was Cheryl Popek with her “Stone Building,” a charcoal depiction of the Tannery, a historical remnant of a business that was once at the location where the Nature Center is now located.
Twenty-two artists entered 52 pictures in the show. Three pieces were by visiting artists and were not eligible for the People’s Choice award.
There was a variety of different types of art including watercolors, oils, metalwork, porcelain, composite sculptures pyrography carvings, encaustic painting mixed media on handmade paper, waterborne automotive paint, fiber art, pastel, charcoal and, acrylic.
David McGeehan of Palmerton was hiking on the Appalachian Trail years ago when he picked up a piece of driftwood.
He put away the piece of wood until he found a use for it as a stand for a prairie dog.
A “Stone Bridge” and a voracious vole were two of the three entries of Mary Anne Shafer, from Lehighton. The vole she named “Nibbles.”
Chris Hunsicker added a bit of music to the art show. He said it is important to give back what was given to him by the Creator. He said the native culture resonates with him.
