Betty Jane Schlegel, 91, from South Whitehall, died on Dec. 29, 2016, in ManorCare West, Allentown. The loving wife of Earl R. Schlegel, the couple shared 65 years of marriage.
Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Annie M. (Williams) Horner.
Born on the Fourth of July, every day was a reason to celebrate life.
She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Allentown, where she served as Sunday School and Bible School teacher for many years.
A Girl Scout leader at Woodlawn, she volunteered in the Woodlawn Social Hall, working in the kitchen and helping to serve dinners to the community.
She was an avid home decorator and had an enthusiasm for all things Elvis.
The story of how her collection came to be was published in the Morning Call in the 1990s.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons Bruce (Jane) of Breinigsville, Gary (Virginia) of Catasauqua; daughters Annette Young (Kenneth) of Coopersburg and Linda Dunn (Shaun) of Catasauqua.
She was a loving grandmother and will be deeply missed by Thomas and Kimberly Schlegel, Jennifer and Rebecca Young, Connor and Cole Dunn, step-grandchildren Stephen (Michelle) Levene, Stephanie Little (Robert) as well as step-great-grandchildren, Crystal, Dakota, Morgan Levene, Kayla and Ashley Little.
