Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., announces there will be no dinner and live band New Year’s Eve. Instead, there will be an open house for its members.
Another social club in the borough, American Club of Coplay, 32 N. Third St., also will have an open house at its Third Street location. Its pavilion is rented out for the evening for a charity event featuring a well-known Elvis impersonator.
Also, West Coplay Maennerchor, 3326 N. Ruch St., Whitehall, has music on tap for the night.
Dining out is a preference for many couples that night. There will be families getting together in their homes to celebrate the start of 2017, too, and certainly watching on television the ball dropping at Times Square.

On New Year’s Day, the borough’s three churches, St. John’s Lutheran, St. Peter Roman Catholic and Trinity United Church of Christ, will welcome parishioners to services and Mass.

The snow and ice removal on Coplay-Northampton Bridge, slated for demolition and a new bridge replacement, is performed by Northampton Borough Public Works Department - although the bridge is an intercounty span. The work is exemplary; however, Lehigh County removes snow and ice from the sidewalk and the south side of the bridge. At times, pedestrians say the job could be made more of a priority because of the foot traffic between the two communities.
