The 2016 Pennsylvania Football Writers’ All-State football team was announced last week and 11 players from the area were honored by their respective classes.
Liberty senior defensive end Jaohne Duggan was the only Bethlehem player named to the class 6A team, as he was joined by Parkland senior defensive lineman DJ Hohman and junior linebacker Jahan Worth. Emmaus kicker Carson Landis also made the team.
Duggan was arguably the most disruptive player in the East Penn Conference this season, as the Rutgers commit, registered 14 sacks and 76 tackles, 20 of which for loss, making it back-to-back seasons that he was named all-state.
Hohman accounted for 13.5 sacks and 109 total tackles, while Worth added all-state honors to his EPC South defensive MVP nomination from this fall.
Worth had a team-high 169 tackles and 4.5 sacks. He also rushed for 925 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Landis, a Lafayette commit, had one of the best legs in the state, as he recorded 37 touchbacks this season. He connected on 9-of-12 field goals and broke a

Buskirk, a safety, recorded 138 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He also caught 30 passes for 311 yards and four touchdowns as a wide receiver.
Bethlehem Catholic senior lineman Niko Camacho and senior linebacker Isaiah Onuschak were named to the class 4A team. Camacho was Becahi’s best lineman, playing offensive tackle and nose guard on defense. He had four sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss this season in nine games. Camacho got hurt in the third quarter of Becahi’s 42-21 victory over Freedom in week nine and was unable to play in the final six games of the Hawks state semifinal run, finishing their year at 11-4.
Onuschak was a menace at linebacker, racking up 86 tackles, 7.5 sacks and a team-high 22.5 tackles for loss. He scored two defensive touchdowns on fumble recoveries as well.
Central Catholic’s Darnell Ferrell also made the 4A team at running back, scoring 42 total touchdowns and rushing for 1,792 yards. He also caught 13 receptions for 345 yards.
In 3A, Pen Argyl’s Austin Heisler and Notre Dame’s Jalen Simpson received honors.
Heisler, a senior defensive end, had 16 sacks, 72 tackles and five fumble recoveries to lead a Pen Argyl resurgence this year on the defensive side of the ball.
Simpson had 67 receptions for 866 yards and six touchdowns, scoring 10 total TD’s on the year. He was named to the squad as an athlete.
