Coplay: Coplay borough office, public works department closed for holiday

The borough office and the public works department will be closed for the Christmas holiday beginning tomorrow, Dec. 23, through Dec. 26. The office and department will reopen Dec. 27.

Refuse will be picked up Tuesday and Wednesday, a day later than the usual schedule.

For families wanting their children to experience a holiday model train display, there will be an opportunity tonight, Dec. 22 - from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. - on the second floor of the borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St. Come see a large room full of trains that glide through villages and more.

The free exhibit will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but will reopen 1-4 p.m. Dec. 31.

The town’s three churches, St. John’s Lutheran, St. Peter Roman Catholic and Trinity United Church of Christ, have Christmas Eve and Christmas morning services and Mass. They will surely have pews filled with worshippers.

With Christmas on Sunday, there will be a few homes in the borough discarding their Christmas trees as early as Monday and Tuesday. The borough sanitation trucks will pick up discarded trees beginning Dec. 30 and, thereafter, Fridays in January.

Gift boxes and wrapping paper should be put in your recycling containers for pickup.

Meetings set before December ends include the borough planning commission, 7 p.m. Dec. 27, and the borough park and recreation board, 7 p.m. Dec. 28. Both meetings are held in council chambers at the borough hall and are open to the public.
