Roughs beat Saucon Valley
The Catasauqua boys basketball team improved their record to 2-2 on Monday night inside Catasauqua High School, as the team defeated Saucon Valley 55-48.
The game started off slow and steady for the Rough Riders as they fell into a 10-7 hole in the first period.
Isaiah Graves scored all seven points for Catasauqua in the first quarter and would go on to score the game-high 29 points, nailing three three-pointers while going 2-for-6 at the free throw line.
The second period saw Catty rally back to an 18-18 tie heading into the half.
Coach Eric Snyder rallied the team encouraging the players to “wait for picks to develop and spread the ball out.”
After halftime, the third period saw both teams go on long scoring runs. Saucon Valley began by going on an 8-0 run only for Catasauqua to go on a 6-0 run within the first two minutes of play.
The back and fourth action kept up as Catasauqua began to creep ahead, outscoring Saucon Valley by three points, leaving the game set at 33-30 for the fourth period.
Snyder told his team to step up and go for the basket if they want to win and the Rough Riders took their coaches words of wisdom in stride, controlling the ball while driving in for layups. The team outscored Saucon 22-18 in the final period to seal Catasauqua’s second victory of the season.
Apart from Graves’ impressive performance, Andrew Brett went on to score 10 points while Colin Hawk added nine. Three players for Saucon Valley scored in the double digits as Cam Allen scored 18, while Will Smith and Josh Snead both added 11.
Catasauqua scored 22 field goals while going 6-for-19 from the free throw line, Saucon Valley scored 16 field goals while going 12-for-18 from the free throw line.
Catasauqua will look to continue its winning ways with their last home game of December on Wednesday against Northern Lehigh, 7 p.m. start time.
