S. Whitehall adopts ordinance codification

A project begun 20 years ago by South Whitehall staff has culminated in a 1,135-page manuscript consisting of all township ordinances currently in effect.

At the Dec. 7 meeting, Solicitor Joseph Zator displayed the several-inch-thick document, which includes 350 chapters, an appendix and an errata.

The endeavor was to provide for an efficient, orderly and practical means of accessing the complete body of township ordinances.

Through this project, the ordinances were revised, codified and consolidated into chapters, articles and sections.

Zator commented on the completed enterprise.

“This has been in the works for this township for decades,” Zator said.

“It is a restructuring of township ordinances into chapters.

“There are some nonsubstantive grammatical changes. There are no substantive changes on the SALDO.

“There are over 100 vehicle and traffic ordinances.”

Commissioners voted 4-0 to adopt the codification.

Board member Matt Mulqueen was absent.

A copy of the codification will be available for public use in the office of the township secretary and will be kept up-to-date with any future additions, deletions, amendments or supplements to township regulations.

The ordinance codification also will be available for online reference.

In other business, commissioners approved conveyance of several streets from the developer of Park Ridge to the township.

These include extensions of Ruth Street and Brown Street from Clifford Park; Abigail Lane; and a 660-foot right-of-way along Scherersville Road.

Director of Community Development Gerald Harbison commented on the conveyance.

“The snow plowing is ours now,” Harbison said.

Township engineer Ralph Russek Jr. recalled the subdivision received its first township review 10 years ago.
