Phyllis S. Bechtold, 86, of Walnutport and formerly of Catasauqua, died Nov. 5, 2016, at Palmerton Hospital. She was the wife of John W. Bechtold for 62 years.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Foster and Helen (Keener) Schaffer.

She was a secretary for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Catasauqua, from 1959 to 1978, as well as a member. She was in charge of the Luther League at St. Paul’s.

Prior to that, she worked for the former Fuller Company from 1947-1956.

She was a Girl Scouts leader.

She traveled with United Federation of Doll Clubs and ran bus trips with Transbridge Bus.

In additional to her husband, she is survived by a son, Barry and his wife Barbara of Bloomsburg; nieces; and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Faye and Millicent; and a brother, Robert.
