Norma Alice Breininger
Norma Alice Breininger, 77, died on Nov. 23, 2016, in St. Luke’s Hospice House, Bethlehem. She and her husband Donald P. Breininger were married for 57 years last August.
Born Feb. 22, 1939, in Weisenberg Township, she was the daughter of the late Walter R. and Minnie M. (Frey) Zettlemoyer.
A rural New Tripoli resident all of her adult life, she was a 1956 graduate of Parkland High School.
She received her registered nurse degree from Allentown Hospital School of Nursing.
Her nursing career began at Allentown General Hospital and continued at Allentown Osteopathic Hospital.
She retired as a nurse manager from St. Luke’s Hospital, Allentown campus, after 36 years of service there.
A member of Weisenberg Lutheran Church, New Tripoli, she sang with the choir for many years and was also active in the Sunday School program.
She was also active with the Weisenberg Lowhill Township Historical Society, including co-chairing the basket social for 10 years.
Baking was one of her featured hobbies and she was known in the locality for her delicious raised potato cakes of which she baked numerous quantities yearly for various charities.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Keith D. (Wendy) Breininger and Stephen K. (Marcella) Breininger of New Tripoli, daughters Karen N. (Kelvin) Reinert of New Tripoli, Susan C. (Cindy) Breininger of Forest Hill, Md., and Juliann M. (Brian) Kurtz of Alburtis; sister-in-law Patricia A. Zettlemoyer of Breinigsville, brother-in-law Carl C. (Phyllis) Breininger of Germansville; grandchildren James (Jen), John (Amy), Andrew (Rachel), Nathan (Ashley), Noah, Gabriel, Marina and Morgan; great-grandchildren Alanna, Wesley and Luke; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers Ralph W. and Stanley O. Zettlemoyer.
