Catty falls on Thanksgiving
The Catasauqua Rough Riders season came to a close on Thanksgiving morning as the Roughies fell to the Northampton Konkrete Kids 42-25.
The Northampton squad jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead and never looked back in the 94th meeting between the two cross town rivals. Etching their first score after consecutive fourth down conversions, the K-kids offense looked like a well-oiled machine throughout the day.
The Rough Riders had something to bring to the table though after halftime by scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter on a Wil-Quon Clemons one-yard touchdown run and a five-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Brett to Miguel Hernandez, but the K-Kids did not falter and continued to provide their own answers to keep things in control.
Junior quarterback Andrew Brett was named Catasauqua’s MVP for the game. Brett passed for 304 yards, with two touchdowns and ran for 102 yards with another score for the Rough Riders. Brett’s big highlight of the game came with 5:03 left in the fourth quarter as Brett ran for a 47 yard score, dodging multiple tacklers while enlightening the crowd.
“I thought the kids did okay, Andrew threw the ball well and the receivers made plays,” said Catasauqua coach Phil Dorn, “They’ve pretty much done that for us all year. We weren’t able to run the ball consistently like I thought we needed to do, open up some more things. But they kept us in the game, just fell short.”
With the loss Northampton now takes a 57-33-4 lead in the all-time series and marks the third-straight victory for the K-Kids.
Neither team finished strong record wise, with Northampton notching a 2-10 mark and Catasauqua earning a 2-9 total, but both teams are excited to see what the future holds and are proud of the work they put in throughout the year.
“We have good kids who have worked hard,” said Dorn, “No matter what happened from August until now, we knew that this game would be there waiting for us. And we knew we needed to be ready for it because it means so much for our school and community.”
