Police locate bank robbery suspect
A 53-year-old man was arrested in the early afternoon of Nov. 20 after allegedly robbing the PNC Bank, 4602 Broadway, Tilghman Square Shopping Center, South Whitehall.
According to an affidavit of probable cause obtained from District Judge Michael Faulkner’s office, Upper Macungie, South Whitehall Police Detective Timothy C. Shoudt said South Whitehall police were dispatched 11:24 a.m. to the bank for an armed robbery.
Shoudt said a white male, later identified as Jerry James Julian, no current address, allegedly handed a note to a bank employee demanding money and stating he had a firearm.
According to the affidavit, Julian was given $2,194 before fleeing northbound through Tilghman Square.
Shoudt said a man matching Julian’s description had checked out of the Allenwood Motel, 1058 Hausman Road, South Whitehall, at 9:30 a.m.
Julian allegedly returned to the motel before noon to pay his $400 rent before taking a taxi to the Walmart Supercenter, Lower Macungie.
Julian was later taken into custody at Walmart by State Police Troop M, Fogelsville, after he had purchased $350 in merchandise from the store.
He was searched and allegedly found to have a large amount of U.S. currency in various denominations on him, Shoudt stated in the affidavit.
Officers from Upper Macungie Police Department, and an officer and K-9 from the Catasauqua Police Department assisted.
According to Lehigh County criminal court records, Julian was also charged with robbery by threatening immediate serious injury, robbery by demanding money from a financial institution, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
He was arraigned Nov. 20 before District Judge Faulkner who set bail at $250,000.
Julian was unable to post bail and was confined to Lehigh County Jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 28.
