School board member resigns

Catasauqua Area School Board member Dawn Berrigan has submitted a letter of resignation to the school board, which is expected to officially accept it at the Dec. 6 meeting.

Berrigan, who served on the board 2003-07 and 2011-16, will be moving to Virginia with her husband.

Berrigan recently told The Press her biggest accomplishment as a board member is striving to keep taxes low for residents.

“That takes more than one person, but my argument was always for the folks who pay the bills, and how important it is to be fair to them,” she said.

Berrigan lauded the board for developing the ability to work together in reaching decisions.

“Over the years our board has become very in tune with each other, respectful of each other’s ideas and willing to look at issues from all angles, together,” she said.

Members of the board and those in the community will be what Berrigan misses the most about Catasauqua.

“We have made wonderful friends here,” she said. “This community has been so good to my family, and we will always be thankful for the years here.”

When asked if she has any plans for running for elected office in Virginia in the future, Berrigan said there are no plans at the moment.

“That is something that may or may not happen,” she said.

The open school board seat will be advertised by the district in the near future.
