Lee D. Hess
Lee D. Hess, 71, of Alburtis, died Nov. 14, 2016, in the Inpatient Hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the loving husband of Sharon F. (Fuller) Hess, with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage in August. Born in Longswamp Township, he was one of the 11 children of the late Earl J. and Myrle (Rudolph) Hess.
He was a member of Huff’s Union Church, Alburtis, and was a 1963 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School.
He was employed for 36 years as a maintenance worker in the power house, first by Schaefer Brewing Co., then Stroh’s Brewing Co., and finally by Pabst Brewing Co., Fogelsville, retiring in 2009. Prior to that, he worked for Boyertown Bodyworks, Bechtelsville Stone Quarry, DANA Corp. and Bethlehem Steel Corp. He also traveled with “Little Richard” and his carnivals in his younger years.
A family man, he enjoyed working around the house and yard and also tinkering around his cars and reading.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Earl J. and his wife Daphne A. (Dickerson), of Virginville, Michele L. and her husband Neal R. Christman, of Kutztown, Brandon M. and his wife Crystal L. (Barlet), of Mertztown, and Timothy A., of Chincoteague Island, Va; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five sisters and best friend, Mr. Dutch. He was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers.
