LMMS Theatre presents ‘Extra Ticket’
Lower Macungie Middle School Theatre will hold performances 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17, 18 and 19 for its fall comedy presentation of “Extra Ticket.”
Seating is general admission. Tickets can be purchased at the door the nights of the shows.
The play, written by Margaret Lersky, sets the scene in a high school with the plight of theater student, Liz, who receives two tickets to the famous Hamilton show. Over the course of a week, everyone including her best friend, boyfriend, tutor and stage manager will try to outdo each other for her attention to convince Liz to give them the extra ticket.
This new play has given LMMS Theatre students an opportunity for some creative freedom taking the original script and making some modifications to lines emulating how a high school student might respond and to make the character their own.
The cast and crew of approximately 30 students has been working very hard to entertain audiences with laughs and a surprise ending with a twist.
In his second year of LMMS Theatre, eighth grader Erick DeLaRosa plays the part of Mark, a student and captain of the basketball team. DeLaRosa describes his character as “cocky and awkward around girls.” His character makes fun of everyone and is best friends with the three main characters competing for the extra ticket to Hamilton. DeLaRosa likes theater because, “It’s a really fun experience” and he likes “putting your own personality into the play to make it your own.”
Lila Benner, in her fifth show, is one of the stage managers and has experienced being part of stage crew and set building. She loves coming to practice and seeing the characters develop and seeing how everything comes together.
Benner’s role is to follow the script, call lines and be backstage during performances to make sure things run smoothly. She said the challenge of being stage manager is “the pressure to make sure everything is right because I want to do a good job for everyone here.” She hopes the audience realizes how much effort, time, energy and practice they all have put into the play and they have a good time and enjoy it.
Zach Simmons plays Mr. James, director of the school’s spring musical. He likes the diversity of his character’s personality.
Mr. James’ personality can change from self-confident to flustered at the sight of Miss Abby the language arts teacher he’s attracted to.
Simmons has been in plays since elementary school and “just loves it and thinks it’s awesome. I just love how everyone’s bonded together and are great friends, I just love how the whole thing works.” He hopes the audience has good laughs and appreciates the hard work they put into it. He said, “We want them to laugh and have a good time.”
Liz, played by Angelina Buysse, is the student with the ticket dilemma. Buysse describes her character as “an average girl caught in an unaverage situation. She’s very thoughtful; she’s worried about what other people will think if she gives the ticket to someone and the outcome of it.
“I love all the people that join because since we spend so much time together after school we all get to bond with each other and become closer friends. I probably wouldn’t have met most of these people,” Buysse said.
Buysse hopes the audience sees the different personalities of the characters and how much the actors put their own personalities into them. She hopes they have a good laugh because that’s what it’s all about.
