LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Letter to The Editor

To The Editor:

Periodically members of the Seipstown Grange are questioned if the grange is still alive and functioning. Yes, we certainly are!

Most volunteer organizations are experiencing decreased and aging membership. Our grange is no exception.

For the past decade, the cost of maintenance, insurance and utilities to maintain our Seipstown Grange Hall and property absorbed the majority of the funds raised and we were forced to withhold our customary funding in support of both community service and agricultural related programs.

Therefore, the membership decided back in 2014 we would need to tackle the heartbreaking, difficult task of selling our beloved property but before doing so we would proudly celebrate Seipstown Grange’s 100th anniversary in our grange building in May 2015. Celebrate we did!

We are moving forward after this past spring’s sale of our grange property and once again are able to feel pride as Grangers being able to reach out to our local area, throughout Lehigh County as well as supporting our state and national granges’ dedication to the agricultural community.

Did you know 2016 marks the 26th year Seipstown Grange members have beautified 11 miles of Route 100 and Claussville Road through PennDOT’s Adopt–A-Highway Program and the fifth year the youngsters, leaders and families of our local 4-H clubs have participated in these cleanups expressing how very proud they are to be able to give back to our lovely rural area.

Anxious to resume our assistance to others, in the last three months Seipstown Grange has donated more than $15,000 to 16 service and non-profits from emergency services to the Christ’s Church at Lowhill Food Bank to the Allentown Rescue Mission to Meals on Wheels to name a few.

Our address has changed but the same community spirit lives on in the hearts of the brothers and sisters of Seipstown Grange 1657 under our Master/President Brian Wetzel’s direction. We anticipate many more decades of service. We always welcome new members and volunteers to assist with our endeavors.
