Coplay: Anniversary group to meet

Coplay’s 150th anniversary steering committee meets 7 p.m. tonight, Nov. 17, in council chambers at borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St. There will be nine people selected to the steering committee, which will head the planning for the 2019 celebration.

Nov. 20 marks the 50th anniversary for Coplay’s Ecumenical Thanksgiving service. The public is invited to attend.

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church will host the service, which begins 7 p.m. Other participating churches are St. John’s Lutheran Church and Trinity United Church of Christ. The service rotates annually among the three churches.

The combined choirs of the churches will provide special music for the service. An offering will be taken to benefit a borough organization. Coplay Garden Club will provide flowers for the service.

Twenty families will have a Thanksgiving dinner thanks to Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association’s food bank. Recipients of the food bank will enjoy a dinner of chicken, stuffing, cranberry sauce, corn, string beans, rolls and pumpkin pie.

A reminder for borough residents: This coming week, recycling materials will be collected Nov. 23. There will be no yard waste or leaf collection by the borough’s sanitation crew.

Also, anyone having materials in excess of 35 gallons will not have the materials picked up by the borough.

The office of Dr. S. John Salivonchik, DMD, PC, is pleased to announce its move to 1005 Chestnut St., Coplay.

An open house will be 6-8 p.m. Nov. 30.

With Veterans Day now concluded for another year, those wanting to dispose of American flags placed at the graves of family members can do so by taking them to a decorated former mailbox in front of Stanley W. Reinhard Jr. American Legion Post 426 on South Second Street.
