Veterans Day, Nov. 11, in the borough is mostly a quiet observance. Although there are no special programs that will be held, churches will note the holiday at their services. And there are households across the borough with American flags flown on flagpoles and hung on porches.
The small American flags on veterans’ graves have remained since Memorial Day.

U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots campaign, which is held across the region, began Monday and lists the borough hall lobby at Fourth and Center streets as one of its drop-off locations for new and unwrapped toys.
In recent years, it was held by Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association.
Whitehall Area Chamber of Commerce is coordinating the local project now.

This month, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church is holding its annual Warmth for a Friend coat drive. The church, 4 S. Fifth St., is taking donations of coats, scarves, gloves and sweaters for those in need. A container is in the church vestibule for the apparel donations.
The clothing will be distributed to Allentown Rescue Mission and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Allentown, for the needy.

Coplay Public Library is again holding one of its popular book sales at bargain basement prices. The book sale will be held 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 18 and Nov. 19.
The library’s drawing for the basket social raffle is 4 p.m. Nov. 19.

Do you have a large evergreen tree on your property you no longer want? The borough will cut down the tree and transport it for the town’s annual yule observance.
