Some South Whitehall patrol officers may look a little scruffier come Dec. 1.
Twenty-three officers and two administrative staff are participating in “No Shave November” to raise awareness and funds for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley.
All the men needed to donate between $50 and $100 to enter the event.
At the end of the month, prizes will be awarded for longest and shortest beards and the most gray beard.
“We are excited that the South Whitehall Township Police selected us to receive the funds from their fundraiser,” PCFLV Executive Director Michelle Zenie said.
“I can’t wait to see what they look like at the end of the month.
Police Chief John Christman, who is growing his facial hair in support of the cause, commented on the fundraiser.
“We selected PCFLV because they help local kids with cancer, some of whom live right here in our township,” said Christman. “We love giving back to the community.”
To date, the police department’s “No Shave November” has raised $1,340 for PCFLV.
PCFLV programs include Camp Smile, a week-long day camp, scholarships, in-patient visits, Mom’s coffee hours, gas, grocery store, hospital cafeteria gift cards, Art Soup, where kids work with a local artist while the parents are treated to dinner, tickets to local sporting and entertainment events, and much more.
