Investigators getting updated digs

South Whitehall police investigators can look forward to having a more pleasant, functionally improved environment in their work area at the township complex.

At the Nov. 2 meeting, Police Chief John Christman commented on the improvements.

“This upgrade is long overdue,” Christman said.

Assistant Township Manager Renee Bickel also addressed the issue.

“This is extremely dated, Bickel said.

“We’d like to modernize the area.”

Commissioners approved the $38,701 project which includes removal and replacement of the kitchenette; removal of wainscot with repair and painting of walls; removal and replacement of the carpet; and replacement of the lights and ceiling tiles.

There will also be new furniture and a modernized cubicle design.

Bickel reported some damage had occurred due to a water leak.

Christman noted the broken two-way mirror does not meet accreditation standards.

Some of the work will be done by South Whitehall staff.

The renovation will be funded through the 2016 capital budget.
