Gladys Gertrude (Schaffer) Smith, 90, of Allentown, died Nov. 1, 2016, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Allentown, surrounded by her family.

She and her husband Kenneth P. Smith were married 68 years on Aug. 7.

Born Feb. 28, 1926, in Little Gap, Lower Towamensing Township, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence E. and Gertrude S. (Wagner) Schaffer.

She was a secretary/bookkeeper for several businesses in the Lehigh Valley including her husband’s construction business, an insurance agency and the welfare agency.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation of Cedar Union Church, Cetronia.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Carol A. Smith Stoffel and her husband, Ned, of New Jersey, Sally S. Stiles and her husband, David, of Northampton; siblings Leland Schaffer and his wife, Edith, of Chambersburg, Shirley Quier Davies and her husband, David, of Florida, Phyllis Gump and her husband, John, of Kentucky; granddaughter Sonya; two great-grandsons; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
