Susquehanna

Andrew Van Woert of Fogelsville was inducted into the Sigma Gamma Epsilon honor society at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove.

Sigma Gamma Epsilon is the national honor society for the earth sciences.

Membership is based on the scholastic and scientific advancement of its members; the extension of the relations of friendship and assistance between the university and scientific schools of the United States and Canada; and the advancement of the earth sciences.

A 2014 graduate of Parkland High School, Van Woert is an earth and environmental sciences major at Susquehanna University.

He is the son of James and Lory Van Woert. St. Lawrence

Frederic H. Short of Kempton is a member of the Class of 2020 at St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y.

Short attended The Gunnery prep school in Connecticut.

Each first-year student participates in St. Lawrence University’s innovative first-year program, one of the oldest living-learning programs in the country, helping students make successful transitions from high school to college.

Students live together and are taught by faculty teams, developing the writing, speaking and research skills needed for college.

Hofstra

Joseph Sibilia of Neffs served as a media filing center volunteer during the first presidential debate Sept. 26 between candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump at Hofstra University, Hempstead, N.Y.

Along with a month-long series of panels discussions, lectures and performances on important election issues, the volunteer opportunity provided a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience that inspired students to engage in the democratic process and embrace their responsibility as citizens and voters.
