VIKING VOICES
On Oct. 5 the Allentown Central Catholic Viking marching band participated in the First Flags competition.
Hosted by Easton Area High School, the bands were adjudicated by local high school band directors in the categories of music, marching and general effect. The Viking marching band received an overall rating of “Excellent.” An additional ‘Esprit de Corps’ award – recognizing qualities including spirit, pride and courage – also was presented to the ACCHS band.
The Viking marching band participated in a second competition Oct. 26 in Phillipsburg, N.J., again receiving an overall rating of “Excellent.” The band also was awarded honors for best color guard and high visuals.
In addition to competitions, the ACCHS marching band performed for the community at the Allentown, Catasauqua and Macungie Halloween parades and performs at every Central Catholic football game. This year’s show highlights the jazz artist Chuck Mangione, featuring an opening medley of his songs ‘Feels So Good’ and ‘Children of Sanchez,’ the drum feature ‘Echano’ and the finale ‘El Gato Triste.’
The first academic quarter will end Nov. 4. The second quarter begins Nov. 7.
The week of Nov. 7 to 11 is Central Catholic’s senior week; participating seniors should see the handout for the list of activities and themes.
Viking Christmas will be held 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 13 in Rockne Hall. Central Catholic clothing and club items will be sold, providing an opportunity to begin early Christmas shopping for a Viking family member or friend.
Viking Christmas also corresponds with the annual fall open house 2 to 4 p.m. for any parents or members of the community who wish to tour the school.
