Elisabeth M. Wilson

Elisabeth M. “Betsy” Wilson, 79, of Emmaus, died at home Oct. 28, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Gerald E. Wilson. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William S. Sr. and Cecelia (Lewis) Davis.

She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Emmaus.

She earned her master’s degree in education from East Stroudsburg University, received her bachelor’s degree in physical education from West Chester University and graduated from Scranton Central High School, Class of 1954.

She was employed as a coach and teacher at Moravian Academy in Bethlehem from 1984, retiring in 1998, where she also served as athletic director from 1989 to 1996.

She was a former chairperson of the National Federation of High School Sports and served as the Women’s Official Representative for the Board of Control for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association. She was the PA State Rules Field Hockey Interpreter for the last 35 years and was an official for women’s field hockey from 1956 to 2010. She also coached basketball and softball in the East Penn School District.

She is survived by sons, David E. and his wife Carole, of Macungie; Thomas W. and his wife Lori, of Elysburg and James G. and his wife Laurie, of Alburtis; grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Mara, Sidney, John and Erika; faithful companion, Maddie. She was predeceased by a brother, William S. Davis Jr.

Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s U.C.C. or the American Cancer Society, 3893 Adler Place, Suite 170, Bethlehem, 18017.

A viewing will be held 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th & Hamilton Streets, Allentown. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Nov. 5 at St. John’s U.C.C., 139 N. 4th St., Emmaus.
