Northampton: Enjoy polka, button box music every Friday night at VFW

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714 will host a polka and button box event 7:30-10:30 p.m. every Friday at the Post home, Main Street and Laubach Avenue.

The VFW will hold a Halloween oldies dance, with entertainment by DJ Flipside, 7-10:30 p.m. Oct. 29.

There is a cost. Food and beverages are included.

Tickets will be available at the door.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, East 22nd Street and Washington Avenue, will hold a breakfast 8:30 a.m.-noon Oct. 30.

The menu includes French toast; pancakes; scrambled eggs or omelet; ham, sausage or bacon; hash browns; toast; juice; and coffee or tea.

There is a cost. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Northampton Area Food Bank will hold its annual Halloween Scare Away Hunger walkathon, rain or shine, Oct. 29.

Registration will begin 8:30 a.m. at the food bank, 1601 Canal St.

The 4-1/2-mile walk will kick off 9 a.m. along Canal Park Heritage Trail Walkway to Municipal Park and back.

Refreshments will be served.

Participants are encouraged to come in costume, bring their dogs, kids, friends and neighbors and get sponsors.

Those who don’t want to walk can make a donation or sponsor a walker.

The borough will hold its trick-or-treat night 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31.

A U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots kick-off dance will be held Nov. 5 at Northampton Banquet & Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave.

Doors open 5:30 p.m. The Exceptions will perform 7-11 p.m. Deejay Mike Mitman will entertain between band sets.

There is a cost. Those planning to attend also are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy.

Good Shepherd Catholic School will hold A Night at the Races Nov. 5 in the school gym, 1300 Newport Ave.

Doors open 6 p.m. Food will be served 6:30 p.m. The racing begins 7 p.m.

This event is for those age 21 and over. Seating is limited to the first 200 tickets sold.

Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1301 Newport Ave., is holding a nut roll sale. Varieties include apricot, lekvar, nut, poppyseed and red raspberry. Orders can be picked up at the church 10 a.m.-noon Dec. 10.

St. John’s Friendly Fifties will meet 1 p.m. Nov. 14 in the church’s social hall, 1343 Newport Ave.

The speaker will be Robert Martin Nucher, who will talk about Northampton Area Food Bank. All members are asked to bring an unexpired canned or boxed food item for the food bank.

New members are always welcome.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1235 Main St., will hold a bingo, featuring Longaberger and Vera Bradley items, Nov. 19.

Doors open 11:30 a.m. Bingo starts 1 p.m.

There is a discount if you buy your ticket in advance. Specials will be sold separately.

The event also includes a Chinese auction.

Refreshments will be available for purchase.
