EPC crowns 3 league champs

The Emmaus field hockey team did it again, this time with a come from behind win to capture the East Penn Conference title.

The Hornets and Stroudsburg were scoreless throughout much of the first half before the Mounties Lizzy Cunningham gave her team a 1-0 lead with about 10 minutes left in the first half.

That lead would hold up for the rest of the first half and into this second until the Hornets Kira Koehler tied the game at 1-1, on an assist of Meredith Sholder

Two quick goals would give the Hornets a 3-1 lead and they’d hold on for victory. Leah Zellner scored both of those with assists from Kacie Patton and Madison Orobono.

The girls soccer final featured rivals Parkland and Emmaus and the two teams were scoreless through the first half of play.

The Hornets’ Jess Harnett made a big save with 31 minutes to play to keep the game at 0-0, but the unbeaten Trojans would eventually strike on a goal from Brooke Schutter with 26:42 left to play.

Schutter found the back of the net for a second time about 20 minutes later to give Parkland a 2-0 lead and that score would hold up.

Chuck Hixson will have all the details in next week’s Parkland and East Penn Press editions.

The boys soccer finals saw top-seed Liberty take on Stroudsburg at Nazareth.

Liberty would strike first in this game on a goal from Sammy Abiles with 27:48 to go in the first half.

That lead held up through the first of the first half before the Mounties scored two very quick goals less than a minute apart. The first game at 24:21 and the next at 23:46.

That would be enough for Stroudsburg to take home the title.

In volleyball, the semifinals took place at Whitehall Thursday night.

Liberty needed four games to knock off Central Catholic and advance to the finals.

The Hurricanes will take on Parkland who swept Emmaus in three games.

The finals are set for Saturday at noon at Whitehall. Read all the details from Peter Car in next week’s editions of the Bethlehem and Parkland Press.
