Sheckler Elementary School pumpkin decorating contest entries must be dropped off Oct. 24-26. Judging will take place Oct. 27.

First-place ribbons and certificates will be awarded to students who participate in the following categories: funniest, most colorful, best animal theme, best super hero theme, most unusual, prettiest, best classroom theme, best cartoon or movie character theme, scariest and most creative.

Students may enter a pumpkin in only one category. Entries should be placed on a table labeled for the category when dropping off. Entries should be labeled with students name and homeroom number.

All entries must be removed at the end of the day Oct. 28, or they will be discarded.

I am sending a great big thank you to all the volunteer firefighters from the Catasauqua and North Catasauqua fire departments who came to Sheckler Oct. 14. Firefighters spent the day educating students about fire safety.

A special thank you also goes to the chief of the Allentown Fire Department and the arson dog, Judge, for meeting with the students.

We appreciate all of you and what you do for the students and in the community.
