Burkhardt A. G. Zorn, 87, died Oct. 12, 2016. He was the husband of Theresa (Zalai) Zorn for 67 years.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Henry and Margaret (Koehler) Zorn.
He was an Allentown High School graduate.
He was in the U.S. Army in the occupational forces in Germany from 1946-47. He played violin with the 314th Special Service Band of the European Theater. He was in the band’s show, “It’s All Yours,” which was broadcast by American Forces Network. The band toured throughout the U.S. zone and Berlin at troop entertainment events.
He worked with his father at Zorn’s Market. He worked at Bethlehem Steel and Argeson’s Greenhouse.
In 1954, he began working with Allentown Police Department and was promoted in 1969 to sergeant; in 1973 to lieutenant and in 1984 to captain. He retired in 1987 after 33 years.
He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fullerton.
He was an accordion player and played with the Sauerkraut Band.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Henry; a sister, Elizabeth Spadt; a daughter, Cindy and her husband Bob Held; a son, Dr. Burk and his wife Lyn Zorn; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
