Alburtis Borough Council discussed a new thermal imaging camera for the Alburtis Police Department at the Oct. 12 meeting.

Council voted to approve the purchase with two main options considered. The standard version of the camera cost $4,995, while there was an upgrade that cost an additional $1,312 for a total of $6,307. The upgrade offered an increased resolution, but council decided to purchase the standard version.

Council also discussed improvements for the borough’s website. One specific feature discussed was putting documents on OneDrive and linking these documents to the website. This can be used to share meeting agendas and other meeting information with the public.

There was also discussion about an upcoming public hearing to be held by the Traffic Impact Fee Advisory Committee of Lower Macungie Township. The hearing will be held at the Lower Macungie Township Municipal Building, 3400 Brookside Road 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9. The purpose of the hearing will be to gather public comment regarding the proposed Land Use Assumptions Report to assist with the implementation of impact fees or transportation improvements.

A letter was received from St. Paul’s United Church in Trexlertown thanking the Borough of Alburtis Police Department for its donation of 100 pounds of canned goods for the church’s food pantry. The food was donated as part of a luau and a police night out event this past summer. Currently the church also gathers food donations from other area churches, grocery stores, Lions Clubs, fire companies and Second Harvest.

There were a total of 11 incidents the Alburtis Fire Department responded to during the month of September – seven of which took place in Alburtis borough. According to the September Fire Department Report, incidents included two automobile fires, four EMS Assists, a house fire, a rescue, two automatic fire alarms and traffic control.

Alburtis Bourough Council meets the second and last Wednesdays of each month. The meetings are held 7 p.m. in the Alburtis Bourough Hall.
