Northampton: Friendly Fifties celebrates anniversary

St. John’s Friendly Fifties of Northampton celebrated its 25th anniversary at a Sept. 12 meeting. The rosary was prayed in church before the meeting, and lunch was served.

Under the spiritual guidance of Msgr. Berdar, the club first met Sept. 9, 1991. It was formed to provide a channel for parish members and friends to participate together in spiritual, intellectual, social and community activities. The first officers were Mary Reges, president; Mary Bahnik, vice president; Lillie Heleva, secretary; Rose Winarchick, assistant secretary; and John Reges, treasurer.

The club meets 1 p.m. on the second Monday of every month, except for July and August, in St. John’s social hall, 1343 Newport Ave. There are more than 200 members from the Lehigh Valley. Members celebrating birthdays and wedding anniversaries are given gifts, and light refreshments are served at the conclusion of each meeting. Activities include bingo at the meeting, monthly casino trips and trips to plays and restaurants.

The founding members’ theme of “Let’s Make Things Happen Together” still applies to club members 25 years later.
