Board to begin budget process

A short agenda was presented to North Whitehall supervisors.

Secretary Brenda Norder opened the meeting by noting a special budget meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and Trick or Treat Night will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 28. There is no rain date.

Parkland Hollow minor subdivision was granted a time extension until Dec. 6.

The Timm and Nancy Stoudt plan was also given an extension of time until Dec. 6.

Chairman Ronald Heintzelman said this could be the last time an extension given for this plan.

Supervisor Steve Pany made a motion to advertise for adoption of changes to the zoning ordinance relating to active adult communities.

He is concerned about the allowable density in the rural areas as compared to the density in other areas.

Richard Getz requested the board contact PennDOT in an effort to lower the speed limit of a portion of Mauch Chunk Road.

He was concerned with the section between Ballietsville and Ruchsville roads, approximately a quarter mile, which is currently 45 mph. Other sections are posted at 35 mph.

Resident Jeanine Bauer wanted to know more information about the new 12-inch water line the LCA is building across Route 309. The project is currently in the design phase. The line will service Lehigh Carbon Community College.

Jim Morris was concerned about truck parking.

He said if a plan comes before the board for any type of warehouse, there should be a requirement that a certain amount of truck spaces be made available for parking.

Pany said he does not foresee an influx of warehouses like in neighboring townships.

He cited the hilly terrain and distance from the interstate as his reasoning.

He also noted this type of development would come before the board and conditions could be added to the plan.
