LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Height, weight and vision screenings Oct. 6

It’s finally October and the weather is great. I’m so ready for the sweaters, boots, oh and everything pumpkin – yes, I’m one of those people.

The school district is also getting busy as all the fall activities are kicking into gear.

Harry S Truman Elementary School will hold the annual height, weight and vision screenings for all students Oct. 6.

Salisbury Middle School will hold a parent visitation day Oct. 7.

Salisbury High School will hold the annual Homecoming Dance 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 8. This weekend will kick off with a homecoming parade Oct. 7 beginning 5:30 p.m. starting at HST and concluding at SHS. Don’t forget to come out and support the Falcons in the homecoming game that evening 7 p.m. as the team plays against Pen Argyl.

Oct. 8 is Eastern Salisbury Fire Department’s annual Community Day Open House. Stop by the firehouse to check out all the activities planned for the day. The event will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All STSD schools will be closed Oct. 10 for a teacher in-service day.

Join state Rep. Daniel McNeill, D-133rd, and guest speakers for a conversation about how and why adults, teens and children become involved with opioids and heroin 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at Salisbury High School. This forum is open to the public.

SHS will hold a financial aid night 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 17. Anyone looking to learn about the college financial aid process is urged to attend.

Both HST and Western Salisbury Elementary School will hold parent visitation 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 18 and 1:30 to 3 p.m. Oct. 20. Our younger kids love it when they have visitors at school, so if you can make it, go see what they do all day. I’ve learned it helps me understand some of the things they tell me.

Oct. 18 is SHS picture retake day for any student wishing for a retake.

The school board will meet 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in the administration building.

Looking ahead, don’t forget Oct. 21 is an early dismissal for all STSD schools. SHS and SMS will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and both the elementary schools will dismiss 1 p.m.

The Franko Farm yard waste drop-off site will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 8 and 11.

We have had our summer evenings, now for October eves!” -Humbert Wolfe
