Student earns tourney honors

James Madison

Kelly Robertson was named a member of the 2016 James Madison Volleyball roster at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va.

The Dukes opened the 2016 season at Sinclair Gym in Godwin Hall in August, hosting the JMU Invitational.

JMU went undefeated in its three tournament games with sweeps of Holy Cross and North Carolina Central and topping Georgia State, 3-1, to win the tournament title.

JMU closed opening weekend with a 3-0 loss to No. 7 Washington to open the season with a 3-1 record.

Earning a share of the 2015 CAA regular-season title, JMU was selected to finish fourth this season.

Robertson recently earned Cornell Invitational All-Tournament honors after leading James Madison volleyball to an undefeated weekend at its best season start since 1999.

She was named All-Tournament team after a success weekend on the court.

Robertson finished second on the squad with 21 kills, averaging 2.10 per set, attacking at a .425 clip.

The middle blocker led the squad with 16 total blocks, including a career-high 11 blocks against Marist, becoming the first Duke to have double-digit blocks in a single match since Taylor Gail tallied 10 against Hofstra a season ago.

Robertson added one service ace and eight digs over the Dukes’ three matches.

JMU’s 6-1 start to the 2016 season is the best since the 1999 season when the Dukes opened the year winning seven straight contests.
