Palisades takes down Roughies

For Catasauqua, it truly was a tale of two halves.

On their first drive of the game against Palisades, Catasauqua has one of their most efficient drives of the season as they went on an eight-play, 78-yard drive that culminated when Andrew Brett hit Dylan Nonnemacher on a 14-yard scoring play.

From there, the Roughies appeared to gain some added momentum when Joey Sparacello recovered a fumble late in the first quarter. But any momentum quickly snuffed when Brett was intercepted on the first play.

Catty went into their locker room knotted in a 13-all tie, but the Roughies weren’t the same team in the second half.

After halftime, the Roughies’ surge fizzled and they appeared deflated as Palisades scored 16 consecutive points en route to 43-13 rout.

It marked the third straight defeat for the Roughies, who have been outscored 132-27 during the stretch. Catty also became unraveled on both side of the ball as they were flagged for eight penalties in the second half and had 13 overall for 115 yards. The Roughies didn’t move the ball inside the Palisades’ 30-yard line in the second half.

Brett finished 20 for 34 overall for 292 yards after he went 11 for 17 for 149 yards in the opening half. K.J. Reiss, who scored on a three-yard, was the Roughies’ leading ground gainer, with 41 yards on eight carries.

Yet, the Roughies (1-4) may get a timely break.

They will return to Alumni Field Friday night to host winless Wilson (0-5). The Warriors are coming off a 42-21 defeat at home to Northern Lehigh last week. They have been outscored 79-28 in their last two contests, but they lost a hard-fought 31-21 game to Salisbury and also dropped a gut-wrenching 14-13 contest to Palisades.

Wilson played a scoreless first quarter against Northern Lehigh, but they fumbled the ball four times that helped Northern Lehigh to 14 of their 28 first-half points.

However, the Roughies once again have to put the clamps on a running-heavy team.

Junior tailback Job Goodman has been the workhorse for the Warriors this season. Last week, Goodman rushed for a game-high 213 yards on 26 carries and had all of his team’s scores on the ground, the longest being a 91-yard jaunt.

The Warriors also have returning junior quarterback Cameron Clark, who is a viable threat to run.

Last year, Wilson registered their lone win of the season in a 21-20 victory over the Roughies at Alumni Field in which Catty was stopped on a two-point conversion in the game’s final play. Goodman rushed for 183 yards in the game.
