Herbert L. Booz

Herbert Leeds Booz, 92, of Allentown, died Sept. 19, 2016.

Born March 14, 1924, in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Herbert F. Booz and Sarah Leeds Booz.

In 1953, he married Jessica Lightner.

They were married for more than 61 years until her death in 2014.

A member of the greatest generation, he was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II, flying with the 1st Marine Air Wing, Marine Air Group 32, in the Philippines and Okinawa and, after the surrender of Japan, in China until 1946.

He continued serving in the Marines Corps Reserves for several years after the war.

Attending Lebanon Valley College on the G.I. Bill, he graduated in 1951.

He then went to work for Pennsylvania Power and Light Company as a customer relations specialist, where he remained until his retirement in 1989.

He was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church, South Whitehall, for 56 years.

His survivors include a daughter Kathy Linn Dries of Emmaus; son Mark L. Booz, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sister Nancy Radel of Harrisburg; four granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Semper Fidelis, “always faithful,” was the motto of his life.

He was faithful to his family, his country and to God.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Semper Fi Fund, which provides a variety of programs to assist wounded veterans in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
