Dweck, Roughs look to get back on track
As a senior, Jonathan Dweck has watched his team experience their share of transformations through the years.
This season has proved to be no exception. The Roughies bolted into the Colonial League race when they moved out to a 3-3 start. Since then, they have been saddled with a five-game losing streak, one that can put a serious harness on their postseason aspirations.
Yet, Dweck wants to keep everything in its proper focus. He has experienced some changes in his game.
“I think we have been playing better than last year,” said Dweck. “After last season, we had room to improve and we have done that. But things will never be perfect.
“Most of my game has been scoring and setting up goals and I have put together a pretty good game. I know I have things to work on and this year had a different twist.”
Dweck has made the change from center midfielder to striker to help bolster the Roughies’ attack. The change has been a positive one, as he has been the team’s assist leader throughout the season.
“I have played every position on the field and I was a goalie when I was younger,” said Dweck. “There were some things I had to get used to at first, but everything has worked out. It is different than setting up some things, and it has been fun.”
Dweck recalled how he began playing soccer in third grade and saw time in the nets until seventh grade.
“When I was younger, I would play half the game on the field and half in the net,” recalled Dweck. “It really helped me get an understanding of the game.”
Head coach Mike Baclawski expected the transition to be a smooth one.
“John (Dweck) is an ultimate team player,” said Baclawksi. “He is a hard worker and does whatever he can for the team. He has been a huge part of our program for the past few years.”
Dweck has seen his team forma tighter bond this year.
“We have a great deal of team unity,” he said. “Last year, we had a lot of fighting and we were broke as a team. Even though things aren’t going our way, we have a good chemistry here.”
Dweck plans to attend Bloomsburg University next fall to pursue a degree in finance. He also plans to keep his soccer career alive in some way.
