Coplay Lions Club, whose history in helping the blind and the community spans 48 years, has initiated its annual fund drive, so it can continue its mission in the many projects it actively supports - including financial support and/or membership involvement.

The club provides eye examinations, eye glasses and hearing aides, financial support for Center for Vision Loss of the Lehigh Valley and annual outings for the blind at Beacon Camp for the Blind.

The club also provides financial support for Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association’s food bank, Lions District 14k’s food bank, Leader Seeing Eye Dog program, Coplay Senior Citizens, Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association’s memorial scholarship to a graduating Central Catholic High School senior and Miller-Keystone Blood Center via Lions Club membership donations.

The club provides greenery and upkeep of the veterans monument at Fifth and Hokendauqua streets and sponsored the banner at Sammy Balliet Stadium, Coplay American Legion’s baseball program.

Along with the fund drive, Coplay Lions Club’s other major project is the Super Bowl breakfast held at Coplay Saengerbund.

Borough police may not be parked where solar digital speed signs have been erected - one on Chestnut Street, the other on South Second Street - but residents in these zones attest to the lower speeds they observe as vehicles pass through because of the signs.

The success the signs have demonstrated has the Borough of Northampton looking into a similar project.
