Ten Parkland students were among the 16,000 semifinalists in the 62nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Nadim Amin, Mandy Dang, Sunayana Jampanaboyana, Hyunbin Kim, Anna Li, Natalie Ondrey, Arvind Parthasarathy, Derrick Shi, Yogeshwar Velingker and Joshua Yan were named semifinalists.
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 scholarships worth $33 million that will be offered next spring.
The semifinalists represent less that 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors and have submitted a detailed application showing leadership abilities as well as an outstanding academic record and SAT test scores.
