The “Rocket Man”:Elton John and His Band perform for the first time ever in Allentown at 8 p.m. Sept. 27 in the PPL Center as part of a concert tour that will feature iconic hits and classic album tracks from throughout his five-decade career, as well as selected tracks from his latest album, “Wonderful Crazy Night.” Doors open at 7 p.m. Elton John’s band features Nigel Olsson, part of John’s original three-piece band, drums; Davey Johnstone, who first recorded with John in 1971 and joined the band a year later, guitar; John Mahon, percussion; Kim Bullard, keyboards, and Matt Bissonette, bass. Expect to hear Sir Elton John classics such as “Your Song,” “Rocket Man,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Crocodile Rock,” “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and many more. His “Pet Sounds”:Music legend Brian Wilson’s 2016 world tour that celebrates the iconic album “Pet Sounds” for a final time in honor of its 50th anniversary stops at the State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton, at 7 p.m. Sept. 25. “Pet Sounds,” originally released May 16, 1966, is regarded as one of the greatest albums ever. Wilson and his band are joined by former band-mates Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin. In addition to performing “Pet Sounds” in its entirety, fans can expect hits and favorites spanning Wilson’s 54-year career with The Beach Boys and as a solo artist. In 2015, Wilson released “No Pier Pressure” and was the subject of the critically-acclaimed biopic, “Love & Mercy.” Wilson’s autobiography, “I Am Brian Wilson: A Memoir,” is to be published Oct. 11. Big anniversary:Only about one week before his 81st birthday (Sept. 30), Johnny Mathis presents his 60th anniversary concert at the State Theatre Center for the Arts, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22. Mathis’ hits, “Wonderful, Wonderful” and “It’s Not For Me To Say,” reached their peaks on the Billboard pop chart in July 1957. “Chances Are” became his first No 1 hit in 1959. Another hit synonymous with Mathis is “Misty.” With multiple Grammy nominations and 73 songs that have hit the Billboard charts, Mathis has been a recording star for 60 years.
