State police: Whitehall man charged with fleeing, other traffic violations

A Whitehall Township man led police on a high-speed pursuit after failing to stop his vehicle for a trooper Sept. 5.

Pennsylvania State Police released a statement that James Marciano, 20, has been charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest or other law enforcement and numerous traffic violations.

Police said Marciano, driving a 2008 Honda Accord, was traveling west on State Route 78 in the area of exit 30, Hamburg Borough, Berks County, when his vehicle speed was recorded on radar at 86 mph in a posted 65 mph zone. After failing to stop when requested by police, Marciano exited the interstate at exit 29 and led police on a high-speed pursuit south on State Route 61.

During this time, police said he crossed into the northbound lane and continued south for approximately 1 mile. Attempting to turn west at Peach Street in Leesport Borough, he hit a curb and stopped on a property in the 200 block of Centre Avenue, police said, adding he then exited his vehicle and failed to comply with troopers’ requests.

Marciano was taken into state police custody. The investigation is continuing, police said.
