Fall children’s program sign-ups at the Northampton Area Public Library will begin Sept. 26 and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The library also will launch 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Sept. 26. The simple and enjoyable act of sharing books helps your child learn pre-reading skills, such as understanding the sounds letters make, developing a bigger vocabulary and building background knowledge - all important skills that help prepare your child for learning to read and entering kindergarten.

To participate in this program, all you have to do is register at the library and track your reading with your child.

Your child earns a reward at each 100 books. A party will be held twice a year for those who completed the program.

The program is sponsored by Thrivent Financial.

The library is currently looking for volunteers to teach weekly individual computer classes as well as volunteers to assist with weekly deliveries of materials to its homebound patrons.

If interested, stop by or call the library at 610-262-7537.

The library also is accepting donations - gift cards, basket items and cash - for its annual autumn basket social Oct. 14. The deadline for donations is Sept. 29.
