K-9 Trials Sept. 25 at Salisbury High School

BY REBECCA FOEHRKOLB

The 2016 Lehigh Valley K-9 Trials are again coming to Salisbury. Held 9 a.m. Sept. 25 at the Salisbury High School football field and sponsored by the Salisbury Township Police Officers Association, these trials showcase the talents of both the dogs and trainers. It amazes me how smart these dogs are and how the trainers know how to bring that out. All proceeds are donated to the scholarship fund to support our fallen brothers and their canine partners.

Salisbury Township will conduct the curbside branch collection Sept. 19 to 23. Branches cannot be longer than 5 feet, be 5 inches in diameter and must be tied in bundles. Open containers can be used for small branches. Place branches out after 6 p.m. Sept. 18.

Western Salisbury Elementary School will hold its open house for parents of students in grades three, four and five 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

The PTA of WSE is hosting a Welcome Back picnic 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24. Students are also selling KidStuff coupon books until Sept. 23. Call the school or contact a student to purchase one.

All Salisbury Township schools will have an early dismissal Sept. 16. The high school and middle school will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and both elementary schools will dismiss 1 p.m.

A school board meeting is scheduled 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 and a curriculum and technology meeting is scheduled 7 p.m. Sept. 26, both at the administration building.

The Devonshire drop-off center is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 17 and 20. The days of operation are the first and third Tuesday and Saturday of the month.

Some of you might not know that I am a full-fledged Trekkie, but I am. So, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the premier of Star Trek Sept. 8, I give you a quote by the creator of this sci-fi classic.

“A man either lives life as it happens to him, meets it head-on and licks it or he turns his back on it and starts to wither away.” Gene Roddenberry
