Sept. 14

Luther Crest has scheduled a free public educational program on continuing care retirement communities, told by residents themselves. The resident-panel discussion will be held 10:30 a.m. at Luther Crest, 800 Hausman Road and will include lunch. Good Shepherd Rehabilitation and the Cancer Support Community will host a free wellness fair entitled “Cancer Rehabilitation: Resources and Services for Mind, Body & Spirit.” The event will be 4 to 7 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Health & Technology Center, 850 S. 5th St., Allentown. Emmaus Main Street Partners and Gross McGinley LLP presents the Farewell Summer Festival on Main Street 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the festival is free. Festival events will include face painting, a martial arts demonstration, music performances, a cupcake decorating contest, an eating contest and a parade.

Emmaus Historical Society will host its monthly program 7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Bill Barto will present the program “Our Moravian Settlers” featuring the story of the first settlers in Emmaus, who they were and what they accomplished in the early years of the borough.

Regional police K-9 trials at Salisbury High School 9 a.m. Come out to see K-9 teams from Pennsylvania and several surrounding states compete in a skills contest and meet the Salisbury Township Police Department’s new K-9 “Rocket,” You will see the best dogs showing off their ability to track and apprehend suspects, locate illegal drugs and run a timed obstacle course. Bring the whole family for a day of fun. Refreshments will be available.

Sept. 27

The Caron Foundation and the Caron Parents’ Support Group of the Lehigh Valley will host an evening with author Sandy Swenson 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall at First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, 3231 Tilghman St., Allentown. Swenson wrote “The Joey Song: A Mother’s Story of Her Son’s Addiction.” Admission to the event is free.

The Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will hold its quarterly meeting 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford municipal building, Old Zionsville. The Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will sponsor a bus tour to see eight homes in the central section of the Lehigh County Log Cabin Trail. There is a cost which includes transportation, hot dogs and beverages upon return.
