Main St. section to close for bridge work

A section at the lower end of Main Street will be closed to traffic in order for Northampton County to proceed with repairs to the bridge that crosses Hokendauqua Creek. Upsetting to Northampton Borough officials is the county’s lack of information regarding the project.

Since there will have to be detours in place because of the heavy traffic on Main Street, borough Manager Leroy Brobst said he thinks the county should be more forthcoming.

“As of Aug. 29, 2016, the borough office has yet to be informed by Northampton County of their impending repairs to Bridge No. 125 that crosses the Hokendauqua Creek on Main Street. The only communication we have received was an email directed to Gregory Morey, public works supervisor, dated July 29, 2016, regarding suggested detour routes.

“This is greatly disappointing because we have been bombarded with telephone calls seeking information we cannot provide,” Brobst informed council at the Sept. 1 meeting.

In other news, Councilman Robert McHale, public works and sewer committee chairman, informed council that Morey met with an engineer for Delaware & Lehigh Heritage Trail to discuss the layout, construction and connection of the trail to Nor-Bath Trail.

Councilwoman Judy Kutzler, fire and health committee chairwoman, said Fire Chief Keith Knoblach received two complementary recreation center passes for use by members of the fire department.

A concert by Kilts in the Park has been rescheduled for 2:30-4:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at Municipal Park, Laubach Avenue and Smith Lane. It had been planned for Aug. 13 but was canceled due to weather.
