Coplay: Community Days is success
The more than 10,000 people who packed the Coplay Community Days festival Aug. 26-28 is the second largest crowd in the six years Steve Burker has chaired the event - most likely also for the more than three decades the festival has been running.
“The people and funds raised are the highest in the six years I chaired,” Burker said, crediting the committee comprised of organizations and others who organize the festival to benefit the community.
While the attendance figures are estimates, Burker contends they are fairly accurate when taking into the large numbers of attendees from Friday evening through Sunday night.
Proceeds, which still are being received, go toward community projects. Burker said a portion of this year’s funds will go toward the last section of new fencing at Sammy Balliet Stadium, the mini-park at Second and Chestnut streets and possibly more security cameras.
Music entertainment at this year’s event featuring The Aardvarks, Walt Groller Polka Band, The Large Flowerheads and others will be asked to return.
“Why fix something that is not broken?” Burker said.
Because Coplay Community Days is a popular event, a large number of vehicles need to find parking. Parking for the event is constantly being monitored. American Club of Coplay provides its grounds for parking, a major benefit for the event.
Service Electric Cable TV live telecasts are a boom for attendance of the event, according to Burker, along with a flood of signage in the area trumpeting the festival.
