Carolyn A. Schantz, 72, of Breinigsville, died Aug. 24, 2016, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Mary A. (Richardson) Schantz.

A breast cancer survivor, she was active with the American Breast Cancer Foundation.

Her name was synonymous with survival and strength and she was the very embodiment of what it means to be a mother selflessly and unconditionally devoted to her children.

She took on the world with reckless abandon, making it safe and a little brighter for everyone blessed enough to cross her path.

Her survivors include sons Hayden V. Craddolph of Pennsylvania, Luis V. Castro Jr. of California and Juan A. Castro of New Jersey; daughter Carlina A. Castro of Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren.

She was predeceased by brothers Robert E. and Edwin L. Schantz.
