The first week of school is behind us, but there are so many activities and events kicking into full swing.

The Harry S Truman Elementary School PTO has begun its fundraiser with the Kidstuff and SaveAround coupon books. A sample of each book was sent home with children. If you’d like to purchase it, send in the appropriate payment. If you need to order extras, fill out the order envelopes and return to school with payment and additional books will be sent home. If you do not want to purchase them, simply return the books to school.

On Sept. 11, the Salisbury Youth Association will hold its 2016 Block and Tackle Car Show at SMS. This event is a fundraiser for many organizations in the township. Come out for a day of cars, food, music and fun. This is the first year I can make it and I can’t wait to check it out.

Sept. 11, 2001 ... I still remember where I was at the moment we heard what was happening ... my college bio-psychology class. My professor turned the television on and we all sat in silence. We were told to go home. Several friends who lived in New York were unable to get home. I hold this event in my heart and will never forget.

Please take a moment on this day to remember the thousands of firemen, police officers, rescue personnel and victims of the attacks.

I hope to see many flags proudly flying, just as they did in the weeks following that event.

The Salisbury Falcon football team is joining Touchdowns Against Cancer in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness month.

The athletes are asking for pledges for every touchdown the team scores Sept. 15 through Oct. 1. Every touchdown will directly benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

To make a pledge, visit pledgeit.org and search for Salisbury Township Touchdowns Against Cancer.

The Franko Farm yard waste drop off site will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 10 and 13.

Sept. 25 will be the annual Police K-9 Trials at the high school with many dogs and handlers showing their skills. Come out and show your support for these officers.
