Whitehall High School’s cheerleading squad will roster not only varsity but junior varsity cheerleaders, which is new for the Zephyrs in 2016.
Varsity cheerleaders are Samantha Grim, Daniela Martinovic, Justice Mousseau, Tamara Riddick, Amanda Rivera, Arianna Viola, Kiana Wong, Keiana Allen, Makenzie Irelan, Tiara Settles, Emely Tavares, Kyleigh Grim, Nicolette Grundman, Kristina Martinovic, and Kelly Ta.
“I haven’t named captains as we will do game captains each week, although my two go-to girls are Samantha Grim and Kiana Wong. Of the seven seniors, they are the only two who are returners,” said Coach Jean Marsteller.
Junior varsity cheerleaders are Hanna Abruzzese, Summer Herb, Jamie Lopez, Naila Mendez, Sharon Paez, Sheyla Paez, Jade Geist, Timeesha Holder, and Shania Prosper.
“Also, it is the first year for our middle school team,” Marsteller said. “I am looking forward to the development of all three teams, and I can’t wait to see how they continue to grow since there is a lot of potential.”
This summer, the Zephyrs did a private home camp.
“For games, we will try to incorporate some of the new stunts we learned as well as a couple of new chants,” said Marsteller. “The girls learned a lot of stunts and techniques to help them be more consistent with their stunts. They focused on spinning and switching stunts as well as inversions.”
The Zephyrs’ first football game is scheduled for Aug. 26 at home against Pocono Mountain East.
