Upper Macungie Township police will again conduct the Operation Safe Stop program for the 2016-17 school year.
Operation Safe Stop is a public awareness and enforcement effort to educate motorists that passing a stopped school bus, when children are loading or unloading, is both dangerous and illegal.
In Upper Macungie, police provide the program the entire school year.
While conducting these safe stop checks, officers arrive at nominated bus stops and not only monitor the stop, but interact with parents and children.
Their goal is to make sure the bus stops are safe, but also to make themselves available to residents who may have concerns or questions.
Police need residents’ help in keeping this program successful.
Parkland families who would like the police to add their child’s bus stop to their list may email the following information to Officer Bill Rohrbach at wrohrbach@uppermac-pd.org:
·Location of the bus stop (be specific);
·Pick-up time in the morning;
·Drop-off time in the afternoon; and
·Bus number.
Operation Safe Stop is one of the most popular programs Upper Macungie police offers.
“We wish to thank the community for their continued support for this program,” UMTP Community Service Divison Officer Rohrbach said. “It is our pleasure to help ensure your children’s safety.”
