Northampton: Zion to hold basket social, flea market

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1904 Main St., will hold a basket social and flea market 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Sept. 9 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 10.

The drawings will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday. You need not be present to win.

Proceeds of the event will benefit Northampton Area Food Bank and the church.

Assumption BVM Church will hold its annual family picnic noon-7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Egypt Memorial Park, Route 329.

An outdoor Mass will begin 11 a.m.

A deejay will entertain noon-3 p.m. The Pennsylvania Villagers Band will perform 3-7 p.m.

There will be ethnic foods, baked goods, games and a raffle.

Northampton AARP Chapter 3915 will meet Sept. 14 at Northampton Banquet and Event Center, 1601 Laubach Ave.

Doors open noon.

Atlas Cement Company Memorial Museum is open 1-3 p.m. the second and fourth Sundays of the month throughout September.

Reminder: Northampton Area Historical Society will hold a garage sale 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 10 at Siegfried Train Station, Route 329.

Donations for the sale are requested from the public and can be dropped off 6-8 p.m. Sept. 8 and 9.

St. John’s Friendly Fifties will have a 25th anniversary meeting 1 p.m. Sept. 12 in the social hall of the church, 1343 Newport Ave.

The rosary will be prayed 11:30 a.m. in the church. A luncheon will be served after the meeting.

The Friends of Northampton Area Public Library will be holding a fall yard sale 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 17. Rain date will be Sept. 24.

Ten-foot-by-10-foot spaces are available. There is a cost. Those interested must bring tables.

There will be a few tables available for an additional rental fee.

Donations of yard sale items are being accepted to be sold at the Friends table.

Baked goods will be accepted to be sold at the refreshment stand.

Hot dogs and drinks also will be available for purchase.

The library will hold its first Teen Advisory Group (TAG) meeting 3:30 p.m. Sept. 14. Interested teens in grades 6-12 should stop by the library, 1615 Laubach Ave., to fill out an application. TAG is for group members to share their ideas, help plan future events for teens and work toward making the library a teen friendly space. They will meet the second Wednesday of each month.

Fall children’s program sign-ups will begin Sept. 26 at the library and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The library is currently looking for volunteers to teach weekly individual computer classes as well as volunteers to assist with weekly deliveries of materials to its homebound patrons.

Northampton Area Public Library is accepting donations - gift cards, basket items and cash - for its annual autumn basket social Oct. 14. The deadline for donations is Sept. 29.

Cenacle to the Divine Mercy at Queenship of Mary Church is sponsoring a bus trip Oct. 7 to see “Samson” at Sight & Sound Theatre.

The trip also includes a luncheon at Shady Maple restaurant, market and gift shop.

The bus departs from St. Joe’s parking lot 1 p.m.

The cost includes the bus, gratuity and theater ticket.
