Edgar W. Kern, 90, of Allentown, died Aug. 27, 2016, in Lehigh Valley Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Agnes D. (Fisher) Kern.

Born Aug. 25, 1926, in Lyon Valley, Lehigh County, he was the son of the late Edgar F. and Minnie A. (Kunkle) Kern.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era earning the rank of sergeant.

A 1956 graduate of Muhlenberg College, he was the chief accountant at the former Lehigh-Portland Cement Co. and Eastern Industries, Allentown, as the budget, safety and employment director.

An avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast, he formerly served as president and longtime treasurer of the Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club and L.V. Trap League.

A member of North End and Blue Ridge rod and gun clubs, he officiated PIAA football, basketball and baseball, and NCAA baseball.

He also umpired hardball for several county leagues and formerly served as president of the Mahoning Valley C.C.

He was a member of New Life Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Tripoli.

His survivors include daughters Lisa Kern of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, Patty Kern-Gross and her husband, Alan, of Bethlehem; sisters Carolyn Mantz of Germansville, Geraldine Wesoloski of New Tripoli, Gloria Kern of Bethlehem; and granddaughter Lauren Gross of Bethlehem.
